Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit the Niagara wine region with Wine Country Ontario during my Blissdom Canada conference. I have already written about my first stop of the wine excursion, if you missed that post you should be sure to pop back and read it as well.
Our second stop came later that Sunday morning, when we were warmly welcomed by The Good Earth Food and Wine Co. The sun was warming us nicely, and we were treated to a beautiful view of the winery, bistro and grounds. Honestly, it was so charming, and so appealing I’m amazed they ever got us to leave. I could have easily spent a lazy Sunday afternoon there as well.
We had been invited for lunch and wine tasting, lucky us, and the lovely ladies of Good Earth had everything ready for us. Long tables were set prettily in the sun out on the protected patio – we had all the warmth of the sun with none of the cool air. It was like a little slice of Mediterranean warmth for this Calgarian, who had already seen snow fly at home.
There was no mistaking the appeal of this pretty bistro – obviously, the food was fantastic, and paired nicely with the wines we were served. We had a flight of flavours to pair different wee appetizers with wines, then soup, our choice of entree, and dessert. The wines were fresh and lively, and very food-friendly.
Amid the talk of wine and food were also plenty of warmth, humour and side winks from Nicolette and Kara, and other staff. These ladies enjoy what they do, of that I have no doubt.
This was the part of our excursion that felt most like indulgence. Most of us are busy, and if we have kids, our chances to linger over lunch and a wine tasting are rare indeed. Time slowed down, I felt miles away from my everyday and just…enjoyed. A rare and welcome opportunity for bliss.
Even the outbuildings and outdoor kitchen are charming at The Good Earth. Really, could you ever leave? Can you imagine coming to work here every day?
We were welcomed by everyone in attendance that day – even the winemaker and chef popped out to say hello and meet our group. It was great to see the faces behind our fabulous experience and thank them in person. We were all amused at the purple-stained hands of winemaker Andréa – talk about getting your hands dirty!
We weren’t surprised to find the food so delicious – after all, The Good Earth doesn’t just make wine and serve great food, they also can teach you to cook! Anyone up for cooking school?
